The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored KaRon Spriggs-Bethea as the January Student of the Month. He is a senior at Carlisle High School and has been class president for the last three years. KaRon received this recognition for exhibiting outstanding leadership, service, and scholastic achievement to both his school and community.
His numerous activities include prom committee, homecoming activities, and senior class trip to New York City. His enthusiasm and compassion are two of his fine character qualities. He has spearheaded a successful school-wide blood drive and raised money to purchase gifts for a family in need during the holiday season.
KaRon’s leadership abilities were recognized with his selection by the faculty to attend Keystone Boys State last summer. He has volunteered at Bosler Library and has tutored students at Mooreland Elementary School.
He is an honor roll student balancing his studies and school activities with a part-time job at Wendy’s. KaRon plans to major in political science with the goal of becoming a lawyer. The Rotary Club of Carlisle congratulates KaRon on all his achievements and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Brendan Van Gorder (pictured) as the November Student of the Month. He is the son of Stephanie Kribs and Chris Van Gorder and a senior at Boiling Springs High School.
Brendan received this recognition for exhibiting outstanding leadership, service, and scholastic achievement to both his school and community.
His numerous activities include Interact Club, Student Council, Class Council, Football, and SADD Club.
He is involved in many community activities through his church, Grace United Methodist, where he is a member of the Youth Group and the Youth Praise Band.
In Brendan’s spare time he enjoys playing guitar, writing songs, and reading. He plans to attend college in the fall where he will major in International Relations and Affairs.

The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Emily Bessler as the October Student of the
Month. She is the daughter of John and Marge Bessler of Carlisle and a senior at Carlisle
High School. Emily received this recognition for exhibiting outstanding leadership, service, and
scholastic achievement to both her school and community.
Her current GPA is 4.0 and she is ranked nine out of 323. Emily is very involved in the high school’s choral program, serving as treasurer of the choir this year. She was voted as a state wide chief justice for the youth and government club. She has received coaching awards for cross country and is serving as captain of the team this year. Emily also tutors German and also worked at the Army Heritage Educational Center as an archival clerk this summer.
She is planning to attend William and Mary in the fall of 2010. The Rotary Club of Carlisle congratulates Emily on all of her achievements and wishes her the best of luck in her future endeavors.

The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Faith Swenson (pictured) as the May Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Barry and Lesa Swenson of Mt. Holly Springs and a senior at Boiling Springs High School. Faith received this recognition for exhibiting outstanding leadership, service, and scholastic achievement to both her school and community.
Her numerous activities include Band, Volleyball, Track, Interact Club, and SADD Club. She is involved in many community activities through the Interact Club such as Lights on for Life and Night Without a Home. She was chosen as Homecoming Queen and is also a Bible School Teacher. In her free time Faith enjoys Zumba, Hip Hop dancing and long distance running.
Faith plans to attend East Stroudsburg University and major in Public Health. The Rotary Club of Carlisle congratulates Faith on all of her achievements and wishes her the best of luck in her future endeavors.

The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Mark Blashford as the April Student of the
Month. He is the son of George and Karen Blashford of Carlisle and a senior at Carlisle
High School. Mark received this recognition for exhibiting outstanding leadership, service, and
scholastic achievement to both her school and community. Mark is dressed as a clown in this photo due to his participation in Springfest activities at the school.
His numerous activities include serving as president of both the National Honor Society and Student Council. He has been a member of the varsity cross country team for four years and the varsity lacrosse team for three years. Mark has also played a principle/lead role in the school's musical the last two years, participated in the Shakespeare troupe for three years and in the school's improv comedy group "Wingin' It."
Mark has many other accomplishments including being a state finalist in the National History Day competition, winning second grand champion in the Carlisle Science fair and winning prestigious gold key award in the Scholastic Writing Competion.
Mark plans to Penn State University in the fall. The Rotary Club of Carlisle congratulates Mark on all of his achievements and wishes him the best of luck in her future endeavors.

The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Big Spring High School Senior Sara Calaman as their March Student of the Month. Sara is the daughter of Marty & Paul Calaman of Newville. She was selected because of her outstanding academic achievement and involvement in the school and the community.
She is a senior at Big Spring High School where she is an active contributor to her school and community. She is Vice President of the National Honor Society, a band and chorus member and a student representative at school board meetings. Sara plays piano for her church, is the secretary of her Sunday school and regularly volunteers with Red Cross Blood Drives. Her future plans include attending Penn State with a major in Food Science. The Rotary Club of Carlisle congratulates Rachel and wishes her all the best in her future endeavors.

The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Megan Wheeler (pictured) as the February Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Jack and Jody Wheeler of Boiling Springs and a senior at Boiling Springs High School. Megan received this recognition for exhibiting outstanding leadership, service, and scholastic achievement to both her school and community.
Her numerous activities include co-editor of the Yearbook, Captain of the Varsity cheerleading squad, member of the Interact Club, and a member of the Life Skills Birthday Committee. She is involved in many community activities through the Interact Club such as Bubbler Buddies and tutoring.
Megan plans to attend Millersville University and be a member of the Honors College where she will major in secondary mathematics education. The Rotary Club of Carlisle congratulates Megan on all of her achievements and wishes her the best of luck in her future endeavors.

| The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Brewster Tisson as the January Student of the Month. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Tisson of Carlisle and a senior at Carlisle High School. Brewster received this recognition for exhibiting outstanding leadership, service and scholastic achievement to both his school and community.
He is a member of both the National Honor Society, where he serves as secretary, and the German Honor Society. Colin has served as a class officer for three years, with the last two as treasurer. He is a member of both the soccer and lacrosse teams, where he has earned three varsity letters playing defense and served as co-captain on the soccer team for three years, which went to district play-offs this year.
Brewster has a heart for service and has contributed to his school, community and beyond by participating in many projects such as organizing a school blood drive, collecting pet food for area shelters and weather-proofing low income housing. He is an Eagle Scout, who collected, cleaned and transported used soccer cleats to Iraq for distribution by U.S. soldiers. He will be attending West Point University in the fall. The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Big Spring High School Senior Brady Barrick as their December Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Chris and Rick Barrick of Newville. She was selected because of her outstanding academic achievement and involvement in the school and the community.
She is a senior at Big Spring High School where she is an active contributor to her school and community. She is the Public Relations Chair for Student Council, a member of the National Honor Society and participates in Track & Field. Brady is a Sunday school teacher and a member of the lighting crew at her church. She is also a volunteer at Project Share in Carlisle. The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Erika Spicer as the November Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Wendy and Kevin Spicer of Carlisle and a senior at Boiling Springs High School. Erika received this recognition for exhibiting outstanding leadership, service, and scholastic achievement to both her school and community.
Her numerous activities include National Honor Society, Band, Debate Team, School Newspaper, Varsity Track and Field, and SADD Club. She also volunteers her time to the Salvation Army/Soup Kitchen, and is member of the High School Interact Club.

The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Carlisle High School Senior Rachel Johnson as their October Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Riva and Michael Johnson of Carlisle. She was selected because of her outstanding academic achievement and involvement in the school and the community.
Rachel has diligently contributed to her community and schools through her volunteer work connected with environmental causes. She has volunteered in river clean-up projects, organized recycling programs, and spent time during her summer working on sustainable forestry projects in Maine. In addition to her community service, Rachel has also been active in school musicals, the model U.N. program, and has been active in both lacrosse and cross country.
Rachel has chosen an advanced program of study throughout high school and ranks within the top ten percent of her class. She is passionate about the sciences and hopes to Study Environmental Science at Colorado College next year. The Rotary Club of Carlisle congratulates Rachel and wishes her all the best in her future endeavors.

The Rotary Club of Carlisle recently honored Big Spring High School Senior Kelly Fahnestock as their September Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Elaine Fahnestock and the late C. William “Bill” Fahnestock of Carlisle. She was selected because of her outstanding academic achievement and involvement in the school and the community.
Kelly’s activities include: high school volleyball and softball, recreational softball with the Hurricanes, Girl Scouts, National Honor Society, Youth Group and Aduro (Christian Club).
Kelly plans to attend college in the fall and would like to be a veterinarian at a zoo. The Rotary Club of Carlisle congratulates Kelly and wishes her all the best in her future endeavors.
